House Pot Plants

Plants under this category enjoy having damp soil so be sure to water them regularly. They can happily live in a pot inside your house or have their roots resting inside your HOB filter on top of your aquarium. Be sure your pot has drainage holes however as a pot without drainage will cause stagnation and root rot. They do not tolerate being in extremely dry environments such as directly under a heat pump where dry air blows onto the leaves for example. They do enjoy a somewhat humid environment however the humidity level in a normal NZ house hold room/lounge etc also works well for these plants providing hot air is not blown onto them. Ambient room light is generally fine as house plants such as these will use the light from your normal house hold ceiling light bulbs as well as light coming in through the windows. They don’t require extremely high levels of light thus a window sill is too bright unless it is a cactus, but do experiment with placement if you notice the plant looking sad. Filtered light using mesh is great hence why those white mesh curtains can be useful if you have them. If you do blast them with light from a close up light bulb then often this can be too overwhelming for the plant and cause it to bleach. Finding the balance is not too difficult. My pothos seem very healthy surviving in a medium lit room.
